I’m currently reading Mark Manson’s Models. An interesting thought in the book that I encountered today was this:

Another problem men have is they often talk too quickly. This comes from a subconscious belief that if we don’t get everything out quickly, people won’t listen to everything we have to say.

I know a recurring experience for me is that I am often asked to repeat myself. I always assumed it was because I was too quiet or because I was mumbling. Perhaps it’s that I’m talking too quickly and perhaps this is what may result in mumbling.

I was curious about this because I recently became present to a belief that I wasn’t consciously aware of. I believe that people aren’t interested in what I have to say, or perhaps it’s that I believe that I don’t have anything valuable to say. In any case, in the past several weeks, I’ve had a lot of people share with me that they’ve found my words impactful to them. Thus, I’ve started to challenge this belief.

Perhaps this belief plays out in many ways in my behaviour. I don’t know if it will be something I can bring into my conscious awareness, but I am going to try to look out for this in the future.
